Torrential rains battered Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for the second consecutive day, flooding and waterlogging in several areas, and disruptions to road and rail traffic on Sunday.

Heavy rain continued to lash numerous districts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, on Sunday, resulting in nine deaths from separate rain-related events. According to an SCR official at Flood Fury, torrential rains and waterlogging over lines at numerous sites on the South Central Railway network resulted in up to 99 trains being cancelled, 4 trains being partially cancelled, and 54 trains being diverted. In Andhra, 17,000 people were evacuated; nine individuals died in separate rain-related accidents in Telangana.

Rivers in both states were in spate, and thousands of people were evacuated by national and state disaster response forces from flooded areas to relief camps.

In a conversation with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah promised them that the federal government will provide them with all the assistance they needed to deal with the rain and floods.

Reddy held an emergency review in view of the incessant rains in the state and spoke to ministers over phone and relief measures in submerged areas, an official release said at Flood fury: Nine dead in separate rain-related incidents in Telangana; 17,000 people evacuated in Andhra.
